I Didn't Bake the Cake . . . Yet!

May 06, 2024

It was a special day in the Tallcott home last week, as Jeremy, my husband, celebrated his 37th birthday on May 1st. I don't know about you, but I thoroughly enjoy getting to spend a whole day celebrating someone to make them feel super special. Balloons, streamers, candles, we go all out. Except this year, I didn't make the cake.

Was it because we didn't get home until late the night because of softball practice? Was it because I forget to get the boxed angel food cake mix, can of cherry pie filling and tub of whipped cream? Or was it because the kids wanted to help me bake it, so I was waiting until the perfect time? Nope, it wasn't because of any of these...

Instead, I chose time with my people. If you know me well enough, you know I'm always down to talk your ideas through. Calling to discuss a marketing idea? Let's talk. Want to chat about strategy for the next t-ball game? I got you. Want to talk through a sales meeting that didn't go like you wanted? Ring-a-ling. I choose you, always.

This is why Jeremy got a Happy Birthday gift bag filled with the makings of the TBD best angel food cake. I chose time with him, the kids, and our niece, Lynnley, instead. She so happens to celebrate her birthday on May 1st, too. Do I feel a little guilty about it? Surprisingly, no. Because my core values aligned with my actions this week, and that's a win.
